Permission to Dream Again: How Working Moms Can Rekindle Their Big, Bold Dreams

Updated: May 4, 2025

Somewhere between school drop-offs, grocery runs, work meetings, and endless laundry loads, at some point my dreams took a back seat. Maybe you can relate.

I’m talking about the dreams you had before life got loud—the ones that made your heart race and your eyes sparkle. The ones that didn’t fit neatly between a 9-to-5 job, soccer practice, and PTA meetings.

During my first pregnancy, I convinced myself that dreaming big was something I had to put on pause until the kids were older… until the house was cleaner… until I had more time, more money, more energy.

But here's the truth: Dreams don’t expire just because life gets full. They don’t vanish because you became a mother, a wife, a provider, a caregiver.

If anything, your dreams expand as you do.

The day I gave myself permission to dream again wasn’t marked by anything grand. It was an ordinary night: dishes in the sink, tired eyes in the mirror.

But as I tucked my child into bed and whispered, "You can be anything you want to be, "something stirred inside me.

Could I say the same thing to myself? Was I living like I believed it was still true for me, too?

That night, after the house went quiet, I pulled out a dusty old journal and wrote down one simple question: "If nothing were holding me back, what would I dream about today?"

The answers came rushing in like an old friend: Start a business. Write a book. Speak on stages. Travel the world with my family. Build a community where women feel seen and celebrated.

And just like that, my heart started beating differently again. And now look, that is exactly what I'm doing! I love it here!

Here’s what I want you to know, beautiful soul:

  • You are allowed to have dreams outside of your roles.

  • You don’t have to "finish" one season of life before you start the next.

  • Your dreams can evolve, change shape, and grow with you—and that's beautiful.

It’s not selfish to want more. It’s sacred to listen to the whisper inside you that says, There’s still more for you here. Because there is!

Are you ready to take a small step toward your dreams again?

Here’s a journal prompt for you (grab your phone or a scrap of paper if you have to):

"What’s one dream I’ve been secretly holding onto, even if it feels impossible right now?"

Write it down. Breathe life back into it. Even if you don’t act on it today, honoring it is an act of self-love! Just as it is said in Habakkuk 2:2, "and the Lord answered me: Write the vision and make it plain on tablets..."

If you’re a working mom, a dreamer, a woman who's craving a life filled with purpose and passion—this is your invitation.

Come alive again. Permission granted.
